WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-  The Women's Basketball Team traveled to Northwood for their seasonal tournament Wednesday night to take on Missouri Baptist.  The Lady Bobcats handed MBU (8-1) their first loss of the season with a 65-56 victory.

The first half showed two evenly matched teams who went back and forth without clearly establishing an advantage.  Further evidence of what appeared to be a stalemate came from the six lead changes and six ties in the first period.  STU's largest lead of the half came at the 10 minute mark when they led by six, 13-7. The Bobcats were able to keep the game close despite shooting only 22% from the floor (8-36).  MBU regained the lead with 42 seconds remaining, and took a 24-23 lead into the locker room.

STU jumped out in the second half and held a 5-point lead with 15 minutes to play.  After being tied at 40 with 11 minutes in the game, the Bobcats mounted a 9-0 run.  STU fended off several MBU attacks but never relinquished their lead.  The Ladies shot an astounding 52% from the field (14-27) in the second half and finished off MBU, 65-56.

The Bobcats held a slight edge over MBU in rebounding (47-45) and turnovers (28-31) which proved to be enough to come out with the win.  Carissa Staiano had a nice showing with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Cindy Castrillon and Alexandria Vanterpool provided scoring support with 10 and 15  points respectively.  STU (3-3) will face Notre Dame (OH) tomorrow at 5 pm in their second game of the Northwood seasonal tournament.
