MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The 2010 volleyball season will be the first for Freideman Sifontes as head coach and 4th overall on the Bobcats' staff. Sifontes was previously an assistant for the Bobcats under former head coach, Mauricio Diaz.
Tutoring young talent began for Sifontes in 2004 as a student assistant coach at Upper Iowa University where he remained until 2006. From there he returned to south Florida to be a student assistant coach at Florida International University. He held this position for two years also while coaching the in-club circuit during the 2006-2008 seasons. During those two seasons Sifontes helped to make the FIU team competitive and eventually tie for first place in the conference in 2007 and reach semifinals of the Sunbelt conference tournament in 2008.
When Sifontes returned to south Florida he remained busy by not only coaching at FIU but also coaching as an assistant at his alma mater Southwest High School which he help lead to a 2008 State Championship. Sifontes also added head coaching experience by coaching the girls 18 and under team in the spring of 2008 and the 17 elite during the 2009 season at the South Dade Volleyball Club.
Sifontes gained priceless experience in the international volleyball circuit during the 2008 summer when he worked with USA Volleyball in coordinating the NORCEA Boys 18 and under International Tournament. Countries included were the United States, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, the Virgin Islands, and El Salvador.
Sifontes' work with the USA Volleyball association would continue during the summer of 2009 where he worked as a volunteer coordinator for the Women's Pan American cup. Countries included were the defending Olympic gold medalist Brazil, USA, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc.
As a player, Sifontes was part of a State Semifinalist squad for Southwest High School in 2004.
A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Sifontes graduated from FIU with a degree in physical education.
