STU DEFEATS THOMAS, TO HOST FINAL FOUR

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Antishia Wright and Berna Miranda each scored a game-high 14 points as St. Thomas blew out Thomas 77-50 in the opening round of The Sun Conference Championship presented by Shula's Hotel and Golf Club. Tynesha Johnson and Jasmin Sakers each added 13 points, while Daniella Ciccarone and Claudia Martin each pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. With the win, the top seeded Bobcats will host the Final Four of the conference tournament which begins Friday at 5 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.

In the first half, STU used a 12-0 run to take a 46-28 lead into intermission. Freshman Tynesha Johnson scored 10 of her 13 points in the opening period. The Bobcats hit five three-pointers in the half, while the Night Hawks were cold from downtown, going 1-for-10.

St. Thomas blew the game open in the second half, going on a 13-0 run out of the break. Defensively, the Bobcats held the Night Hawks without a field goal for the opening 8:45 of the second half.

For the game, the Bobcats shot 52% from the field and held the Night Hawks to 36% shooting. From the free throw line, STU went 17-of-22 while Thomas went 6-of-13. The Bobcats outrebounded the Night Hawks 38-25.

St. Thomas will host the Final Four of the Sun Conference Women's Basketball Championships for the third straight year. The semifinals begin Friday at 5 p,m. with St. Thomas playing the winner of the Northwood-Webber International game. The championship game will be played on Saturday, March 1 at 3 p.m.
