Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas defeated Thomas 85-72 in the semifinals of The Sun Conference Men's Basketball Championship presented by Olympus Insurance. With the win, top seeded STU (25-5, ranked 11
th NAIA DII) will face second seeded Northwood (25-6, ranked 13
th in NAIA DII) in The Sun Conference championship game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
The Bobcats have won 10 consecutive games heading into tomorrow's championship game. In the regular season series, St. Thomas won both games against the Seahawks.
In Monday's semifinal, STU was led by
Davorn Bryant (18 pts),
Floyd Battle (16 pts) and
Demonte' Simpson (11 pts), all of whom came off the bench. As a unit, the Bobcats outscored the Night Hawks 55-16 in bench scoring.
The game was controlled throughout by the Bobcats who took a 44-29 lead into intermission. The Night Hawks cut the lead to six points midway through the second half, but STU responded to build its lead back into double figures and put away the game.
St. Thomas won the battle of the boards, 44-27 with junior
Lorel Beckford pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. Senior guard
Khaalis Coppock-Bey recorded seven rebounds to go along with his 13 points.
Thomas was led by Justyn Watkins who scored a game-high 23 points, making 12 of 14 free throw attempts. Andrea Robinson was the leading rebounder for the Night Hawks with eight.
