"AMERICA'S NEW FAVORITE ATHLETE"

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University pitcher Ben Ancheff has taken the media world by storm following his performance at the NAIA Championship Game on May 29.  Within a week following the Championship game, the right-hander from Williamstown, Pa. is now an international media sensation with coverage from outlets such as People Magazine, USA Today, the New York Post, ESPN and FOX Sports. 
 
Ancheff, who is coming off Tommy John Surgery, allowed just one run on two hits while striking out five over a season-high 4.1 innings in the championship game vs. Lewis-Clark State that was broadcast on ESPN3.  Viewers noticed Ancheff who at 6-2, 300 pounds resembles an NFL offensive lineman and mesmerizes audiences with his prowess on the mound.   As Ancheff continued to strike out opposing hitters, video of the Williamstown, Pa. native began to go viral.  By Saturday morning, the story was trending on twitter with top-10 sports web sites such as CBSSports.com, Bleacher Report, SB Nation, Deadspin and The Big Lead jumping on board.
 
The media coverage for Ancheff didn't slow down as dozens of media outlets ran with the story, including ESPN, FOX Sports and the MLB Network.  Ancheff interviewed with national outlets such as People Magazine and FOX Sports Radio, while locally in South Florida he conducted interviews with NBC6, the Miami Herald, and Sports Radio 560 AM .
 
Internationally, Ancheff even stole headlines overseas with coverage in major media outlets in Australia, Canada, Croatia, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom and Taiwan.
 
Headlines ranged from "America's New Favorite Athlete" to "St. Thomas Pitcher Takes Internet by Storm".  Several stories also told of Ancheff's amazing back story having survived as a premature baby thanks to an experimental procedure and his career as an all-state football player, wrestler and baseball player in high school.
