Daytona Beach, Fla.—The #13 ranked St Thomas University Men's Tennis Team faced #2 ranked and conference rival Embry-Riddle Saturday morning at the Crotty Tennis Complex in a duel to claim the Sun Conference Tournament Title.
Heading into the doubles play, Coach Carrington and the Bobcats knew it was extremely important to come out of the doubles with at least 1 point. #3 doubles team of
Federico Acevedo and
Andrew Rifkin came close to claim a victory for STU, but ERAU's tandem of Felix/Francis were able to hold them off. STU was down 3-0 after doubles.
Coach Carrington and all the guys knew they were in for the biggest challenge yet against the #2 ranked Eagles. Unfortunately the Bobcats dropped two singles matches at the #3 and #4 positions to clinch the victory for the Eagles, while the rest of the matches were in progress and very close with opportunities to come out with wins in all of them, but unfortunately once the match is decided all play stops.
#13 ranked Bobcats have a lot to be proud of producing the best season in STU's history. Thanks to their high national ranking, they will know get ready and look forward to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama. Go Bobcats!
