MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas women's basketball players
Maddie Cummings and
Nickerline Montina became part of an exclusive club over the past two weeks as both seniors eclipsed 1,000 career points.
Cummings scored her 1,000
th point at Johnson&Wales in STU's Sun Conference opener on Jan. 6. Exactly one week later, Montina reached 1,000 points at Webber International.
Cummings and Montina became the third and fourth players in the history of St. Thomas women's basketball to reach the 1,00 mark joining Bobcat alums Cindy Castrillon and Santana Lennon.
Cummings, a senior from Orlando, Fla., has registered most of her 1,000-plus points in her junior and senior years at St. Thomas. As a junior, she scored 433 points, and this season she has scored 259 points on the year with ten games remaining in the regular season. On her career, she now has 1,058 points.
Montina, a senior from Miami (North Miami HS), brought her career total up to 1,028 this weekend after a 19-point performance at Webber International on Friday to put her over the mark and an 18-point output on Saturday at Warner.
St. Thomas women's basketball returns home after four straight road games to open conference play on Friday vs. Ave Maria at the Fernandez Family Center. At the Ave Maria game, Cummings and Montina will each be recognized for their entries into the 1,000-point club.
