BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - St. Thomas junior
Omar Tejeira won the Sun Conference individual championship by a dominant six strokes at the three-round conference championships that concluded Tuesday at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville. Tejeira shot a two-under-par 70 in Tuesday's final round to win the event. He shot scores of 72 and 73 in the first two rounds played Monday.
Tejeira entered the final round tied for first place with Jens Johansson of Webber International at one-over-par. Johansson slipped into a three-way tie for second place at five-over-par for the tournament with a final round score of 76. Tejeira seized the opportunity shooting the lowest round of the tournament.
In team competition, St. Thomas finished in second place behind Webber International. STU's
Simon Murillo shot even par in the third round to finish 12th in the individual standings and help solidify the Bobcats as the runners up at the Championships.
Tejeira also was named Sun Conference Golfer of the Year, while Murillo and
Ryan Carter joined him on the All-Conference team. STU's Jakob Good was named to the conference's All-Academic team.
