Kaitlin Spalding made her collegiate debut one to remember in the Opening Day sweep over Barry University, registering 1.1 innings pitched, a save and four strikeouts.
Spalding entered the first game with the Bobcats leading 6-3 in the top of the 6th inning with the bases loaded and two outs, the freshman quickly escaped the jam by getting a groundout to Tyenna Colon at second base. Spalding finished the game and picked up her first save of her career.
Following the win in game one, Spalding stayed on the mound to start the second game of the double-header. Spalding started and pitched three perfect innings, while striking out three Buccaneers, as STU built an 8-0 lead over Barry to sweep the Opening Day double-header.
The St. Thomas University Bobcats and Spalding return to the diamond in a scrimmage to take on the Broward College Seahawks on Wednesday, January 30th in a double-header with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
