Kevin Hincapie hit a 12-foot jumper with 0.7 seconds left in regulation to propel St. Thomas to a 54-52 win over Talladega on Saturday night in the Miami Gardens Classic at the Fernandez Family Center. Hincapie's game-winning basket capped off a 14-2 run to close out the game and improve the 18
th ranked Bobcats to a 12-3 record.

Demonte' Simpson led all scorers with 16 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field with 10 of his points coming in the second half. Hincapie had a game-high six assists and three steals to go along with 12 points. Guard
Dylan O'Sullivan (13 pts.) and forward
John Nunnally (11 pts.) also scored in double figures for the Bobcats.
Led by eight first-half points by O'Sullivan, STU led 26-19 in a low-scoring opening period as the two teams combined for 18 personal fouls and 22 turnovers. In the second period, Talladega went on a 10-4 run to tie the game at 35-35 with 13:04 remaining, followed by a 13-0 run to give the visitors a 48-40 lead with 6:33 left to play.
Made free throws by O'Sullivan and Hincapie, plus four points by Simpson cut the Talladega lead to two with three minutes to play. A one-handed put-back off a Hincapie miss by Simpson then tied the game at 50 a piece with 2:34 remaining. Talladega would take the lead for the last time at 52-50 with one minute remaining before a Hincapie jumper tied the game at 52-52 with 47 seconds to play.
On the next possession, forward
Lorel Beckford came up with a steal, leading to a STU timeout with 20 seconds left. Hincapie then created his own one-on-one opportunity and sank a jumper free for the game-winner with less than one second to play.
The win gave the Bobcats a split in the Fifth Annual Miami Gardens Classic. On Friday night, STU fell to Bethel 72-70 in another nail-biter. The loss to Bethel snapped a seven-game win streak for the Bobcats and was STU's first loss since Feb. 2, 2012 vs. Northwood, ending an 11-game home winning streak as well.
Against Bethel, Simpson led STU with 18 points and Beckford pulled down a game-high 16 boards. Hincapie registered game-highs in assists (six) and steals (six) to go along with 12 points.
Next up for the Bobcats is a return to Sun Conference play with a home game vs. Webber International on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Fernandez Family Center. STU is currently tied for the lead in the Sun Conference with a 2-0 record in league play.
