SADA, SANTIAGO COME OFF BENCH TO LEAD STU IN ROUT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Tim Sada (17 pts) and David Santiago (16 pts) came off the bench to combine for 33 points as host St. Thomas (4-4) defeated Coastal Georgia (3-8) 80-47 on Saturday afternoon at the Fernandez Family Center.
 
Both Sada and Santiago shot 7-of-15 from the field with Sada connecting on three three-pointers .  Santiago hit two three pointers, while also recording four steals on the defensive end.  The 17 points for Sada marked a career high.
 
Michael Walker added 12 points and pulled down six rebounds, with all of his scoring and rebounding coming in the first half.  Lorel Beckford chipped in with eight points, while also registering six boards.  Eleven different Bobcats, in all, scored throughout the contest.
 
The Mariners opened the game with a 8-2 lead, before the Bobcats went on an 23-3 scoring run capped off by a Chuckie Becton fast break dunk to make the score 25-11 with 6:46 minutes to play in the half.   STU locked down the Mariners on the defensive end for much of the first half, holding CCG without a field goal for a seven-minute stretch and forcing 18 first-half turnovers.   At halftime, the Bobcats led 38-20.
 
The second half featured more of the same with the Bobcats outscoring CCG 42-27.  The Bobcats shot 45% in the second half and again were stout on the defensive end forcing 12 turnovers.
 
St. Thomas returns to action vs. Daemen (N.Y.) on Wednesday as part of the Cruzin Classic played at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla.
