Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Senior
Kevin Hincapie hit two free throws with 1.2 seconds left to lift no. 11 St. Thomas (Fla.) over no. 19 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) 60-58 on Wednesday night at the Fernandez Family Center. In the low scoring affair, sophomore guard
James Vice led all scorers with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting.Â
With the win, the Bobcats (20-5, 13-2) swept both games vs. the Eagles (21-6, 10-5) this season having beaten then-number one ERAU on the road in January. The win also kept St. Thomas in first place in The Sun Conference with three regular season league games to play. The Bobcats have won five straight and nine of their last ten contests.
In front of a lively crowd on Homecoming, the Bobcats played off the crowd's energy throughout. A three-pointer by
Floyd Battle followed by a Vice layup and a Battle dunk off a steal capped a 12-3 run to make the score 48-39 with 8:23 to play.
The Eagles countered with a 7-0 run that tied the game at 55-55 with 1:14 to play. A jumper by
Lorel Beckford and a Battle free throw gave the Bobcats a 58-55 lead with 33 seconds left.
ERAU's Reed Ridder tied the game on a three to make the score 58-58 with 23 seconds left. After a scramble for an offensive rebound, Hincapie was fouled in the act of shooting with 1.2 seconds to play. The senior then converted both free throws for the win.
St. Thomas returns to action on Saturday vs. Johnson & Wales (Fla.) at the Fernandez Family Center. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
