STU SHUTS OUT JWU IN OVERTIME FOR THE WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Host St. Thomas (8-7, 3-3 TSC) outscored Johnson & Wales (12-4, 4-2 TSC) 10-0 in overtime en route to a 69-59 win Saturday afternoon at the Fernandez Family Center.
 
David Santiago led all scorers with 19 points, including a critical three-pointer to tie the game at 59-59 with 1:09 to play in regulation.   Chuckie Becton recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Also scoring in double figures for the Bobcats were Michael Walker (12 pts) and Mikon Hewitt (11 pts). 
 
Lorel Beckford pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, including seven offensive boards.  Beckford also had a critical blocked shot in the final minute of regulation.
 
Santiago opened the scoring in the overtime period, followed by field goals by Walker and Beckford as the Bobcats ran out to a six-point lead.  Walker hit a three-pointer and Hewitt converted a free throw to round out the scoring for the Bobcats in the extra period.  On the defensive end, the Bobcats shut out the Wildcats with several stops in the overtime period.
 
St. Thomas returns to action against Florida Memorial on Tuesday at the Fernandez Family Center.  Game time is 8 p.m.
