BOBCATS OVERWHELM TIGERS

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.-  Host St. Thomas (4-2) took down Edward Waters (3-6) on Saturday evening at the Fernandez Family Center by a final score of 89-66.  STU registered season highs in points and field goal percentage (54.0%) while forcing 27 EWC turnovers on 16 steals on the defensive end.

Five Bobcats scored in double figures led by Fotios Malelis who scored a career-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.  Malelis also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, blocked a shot and recorded two steals.  Timothy Sada scored 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and dished out a team-high five assists.  Kamil Brown scored 15 points to go along with four assists and five rebounds.  Off the bench, Antoine Joe scored 13, while Kheron Milwood added 11.

With the win, the Bobcats completed the regular season sweep of the Tigers in Jacksonville, Fla. as the first meeting between the two schools brought an intense 67-66 win in favor of STU.

STU led the game wire-to-wire, never relinquishing the lead to the visiting Tigers.

The first half had St. Thomas jump out in front and never look back through intermission.  The defensive intensity was a key to STU's first half success as the Bobcats recorded 12 steals as a team, compared to Edward Waters' four. The points off  turnovers in the first gave the Bobcats a chance to sit in the driver's seat as 21 points were scored off of EWC 16 first half turnovers.

It was the second half that decided the game as the Bobcats exploded with the three-ball beyond the arc to put away the Tigers. STU hit seven three-pointers in the second half including a series of back-to-back three's that put the game away.

Next up for the Bobcats is an away matchup against conference opponent Coastal Georgia on Thursday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Brunswick, Ga.  To follow live stats/video of the game: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/coastalgeorgia/.
