MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University eSports team was eliminated from the regional tournament following a 1-3 weekend against top teams from the South Regional in "Hearthstone" over the weekend.
As regional play began, the eBobcats took on "Hearthstone" teams from Rice University, the University of Texas-Dallas, and University of Georgia. Following their successful inaugural season, St. Thomas earned a bye in the first round and awaited competition in regional play.
In their first match, STU fell against the Rice University Owls eSports team 1-3. The eBobcats then took on the University of Texas-Dallas in their second match of regional play, losing again 1-3. In the final match of regional play, STU could not win a set of "Hearthstone", losing to the University of Georgia, 0-3.
The loss in regional play, eliminates St. Thomas from further contention in "Hearthstone" play for the 2018 season. The eBobcats will begin preparing for the spring slate of games, which includes: Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offense, League of Legends, Rainbow Six, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, and DOTA 2.
