STU DROPS SECOND CATTLE CLASSIC MATCH-UP

SEWARD, Neb. – St. Thomas University's Men's Basketball team (0-2) was defeated by Hastings College (3-1) in the finale of the Cattle Classic by a score of 78-76.

STU took a quick 3-2 lead following an Antoine Joe three-point attempt but the Bobcats fell behind by ten points as the team went four minutes without a basket and trailed 13-3 just six minutes into the game. Back-to-back three pointers by Daejour Adderley and Justin Brown cut the Broncos lead to just four, with 13-minutes remaining in the half. The teams traded buckets for the remainder of the first half, as STU went into the halftime break trailing HC 32-38.

After the break, Hastings built their lead back to ten-points with the score at 32-42, STU needed to chip-away to get back into the game. The teams traded two-point baskets as St. Thomas attempted to get back into the game, STU went on a 7-0 run capped off by an Amir Hall two-point basket to bring the HC lead to two at 47-49, which forced the Broncos to burn a timeout. STU took their first lead of the second half following an Adam McNeil three-point attempt with ten-minutes left at 50-49. Immediately following the McNeil three-pointer, Hastings responded with one of their own to reclaim the lead at 50-52. The Bobcats once again had to play catch-up and rallied to erase the Broncos lead and took the lead following a pair of Aaron Dutcher free throws.

As the game between the Broncos and Bobcats wound down, STU was trailing by just one point with under a minute remaining and had two opportunities to win the game with consecutive three-point looks by Brown and Dutcher but fell short in their efforts for their first win of the season.

St. Thomas will head back to Miami Gardens, before heading to South Carolina to take on Voorhees College on November 10th at 3 p.m.
