BOBCATS WIN IN ELECTRIC ATMOSPHERE ON SENIOR NIGHT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – In an electric atmosphere at the Fernandez Family Center on Senior Day, ninth ranked St. Thomas (21-6, 14-2 TSC) came from behind to defeat Webber International (10-13, 6-10 TSC) 81-75 on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Bobcats remained in sole possession of first place in The Sun Conference and have now won 12 of their last 13 games.

Senior Timothy Sada, who was honored pre-game as a member of the elite 1,000-point club and as the career leader in three-pointers at STU, led the Bobcats with 18 points on three-made three pointers.  The sharpshooting Sada now has 1,221 career points and a school-record 274 career three-pointers.

Sada was one of five seniors honored Saturday as part of Senior Day with every senior providing significant contributions in the key conference win.

Senior Darwin Trotman scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with seven assists and two steals.  Mikon Hewitt dished out a game-high eight assists and recorded four steals while also scoring in double digits with 10 points. Senior Mikhail Rolle scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting including a three-pointer.  Senior Raheem Bowman led the Bobcats on the glass with nine rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures was sophomore Fotios Malelis with 12 points to go along with two blocked shots.

After leading 41-35 at halftime, St. Thomas lost its lead early in the second half trailing 49-47.  The Warriors then built a lead of 11 points with nine minutes to play in the contest.  Trailing 68-57, the Bobcats began their comeback with two free throws by Hewitt followed by a layup by Malelis to cut the deficit to seven.  Malelis then blocked a shot that started a fast break as Rolle went coast to coast to make the score 68-63 with 7:25 remaining.  Hewitt converted a three-point play, then set up Trotman on a fast break with a beautiful assist which was followed by a three-pointer by Tyrik Waite to tie the game at 73-73.

The Bobcats then went on an 8-2 run over the final four minutes as STU continued to earn defensive stops.  The offense over the final minutes came from Troman who scored five straight points to make the score 78-75.  A free throw by Hewitt and two free throws by Sada sealed the deal for the Bobcats.

St. Thomas returns to action on Thursday with a trip to Ave Maria followed by the regular season finale on the road at Southeastern on Saturday, Feb. 17.
