BROWN'S HEROICS PUSHES BOBCATS TO OT WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (December 20, 2019) - St. Thomas University (STU) Bobcats Men's Basketball team (8-2) completed an impressive, 24-point comeback to defeat Huntington University (7-6) 100-94 in overtime on Friday afternoon from the Fernandez Family Center.

  • Huntington began the game on a 7-1 run in the first two minutes of the contest.
  • Midway through the first half, the Foresters took a 20-10 advantage after a made three-pointer.
  • Brown added a jumper cutting the lead to 32-25, with 3:44 remaining in the first half.
  • St. Thomas could not get closer than seven points for the remainder of the first half, heading into the halftime break trailing 46-32.
  • Halfway through the second half, STU was trailing 69-45 and in desperate need of a comeback to preserve their winning five-game winning streak.
  • The Bobcats made three consecutive three-pointers (Tyrik Waite, Brown-twice), cutting the lead to seven. On the next STU possession, Brown knocked down three free throws from the charity stripe to bring the score to 84-78.
  • Antoine Joe converted a rare, four-point play, sinking a three-pointer and notching the free throw to put St. Thomas down 85-83 with less than a minute remaining.
  • Gilbert completed the comeback, adding two free throws to send the game into overtime.
  • Gilbert led the Bobcats in overtime, scoring 5-of-15 points.
  • Joe sealed the win, putting STU ahead 93-92, with three consecutive free throws.

St. Thomas improves to 2-0 in OT games on the 2019-20 season, having defeated Florida Memorial on December 7.
Brown tied his career-high in points (35), scoring 18-points in the second half to lead the Bobcats back into the game.
The six-game winning streak is the longest St. Thomas has had since the 2017-18 season, in which STU recorded an eight-game winning streak (1/2 - 1/27)
