BOBCATS OWN MIAMI GARDENS AFTER SWEEPING SERIES AGAINST LIONS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 8, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball (16-5, 9-5 TSC) completed the season sweep of the "Battle of Miami Gardens," defeating Florida Memorial University (7-16, 4-10 TSC) 76-72 from the Lion's Den on FMU's Homecoming game.

The Bobcats have won six consecutive match-ups against the Lions, sweeping the previous three-season series, dating back to 11/18/2017.

  • Florida Memorial rushed out to a quick 5-2 advantage; St. Thomas responded with a 9-0 run, capped off by an Adderley three-pointer, as the Bobcats took an 11-5 lead.
  • Jones recorded eight consecutive points for STU, extending the St. Thomas advantage to 23-11.
  • Brown scored on four straight attempts, collecting eight-points for the Bobcats. STU lead 33-20 with five minutes remaining in the first half.
  • Following the Brown bucket with five minutes remaining, the Bobcats were held off the scoreboard until forty-eight seconds were left in the first half.
  • FMU closed the first half by converting an "and-one," cutting the STU advantage to 35-28 at the halftime break.
  • Jones scored a game-high 12-points in the first half, shooting 60% from the field and adding four rebounds.

  • FMU reclaimed the lead from the charity stripe, converting back-to-back free throws, leading 66-65 with less than four minutes remaining.
  • Strawter added four consecutive makes on free throws, getting STU back the lead, 71-70 with 1:38 left in the second half.
  • Gilbert sealed the win, also from the free-throw line, sealing the Bobcats season sweep of the Lions, 76-72
