ST. THOMAS BATTLES NO.4 ARIZONA CHRISTIAN TO THE FINAL MINUTE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 26, 2021 – The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team (2-4, 0-3 SUN) took the no. 4 Arizona Christian University Firestorm to the brink on Friday afternoon from the Fernandez Family Center falling 62-61.
 
St. Thomas held the possession and momentum for most of the game starting with a 7-1 run to open the game. ACU worked their way back into it tying it at eight all with 14:55 on the clock in the first half.
 
After a lot of back and forth the Firestorm would take a 30-25 lead with five minutes remaining, St. Thomas chipped away with a couple free-throws and a three pointer from Will Brown III to reclaim the lead at 31-30. Jonas Parker would hit the go-ahead three with nine seconds remaining in the first half to head into the half up 35-33.
 
The Bobcats did what they do best and come out from the locker room with a different type of spark going on a 10-3 run to take a nine-point lead. The lead would get as big as 11 with 8:28 on the clock. The Firestorm retaliated with a 10-0 run of their own to bring it within one at 54-53 with 5:43 remaining.
 
Arizona Christian would take their final lead of the game on their last shot with a little over a minute left that would be the difference maker. St. Thomas missed three key opportunities to take the lead or tie the game.
 
Parker led the way with 20-points, 12-rebounds, his second double-double as a Bobcat. Jahsim Floyd was right behind with 13-points, five-rebounds. The Bobcats outrebounded the Firestorm 52-33.
 
St. Thomas will continue their home stint vs. NCAA Division II hometown foe, Barry University, on Monday, November 29th at 7 p.m. from the Fernandez Family Center Gym.
