BOBCATS FALL SHORT AGAINST LIONS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 20, 2021)- St. Thomas University Men's Basketball (12-10, 11-9 TSC) struggled against Florida Memorial University (7-16, 7-13 TSC) 68-71 Saturday afternoon in the Battle of Miami Gardens.

Game Notes:

  • The first six minutes of the game were a back-and-forth battle for the lead, concluding with Lee Richmond's three-pointer to give the Bobcats a 15-13 advantage. 
  • A drained three from Antoine Joe kept the Bobcat's on top by three, 21-18, halfway through the first half.
  • Russell, with a jumper, brought the Bobcats within one of the Lions 25-26.
  • Joe recorded a three-pointer to start closing the Lions' gap, 30-33, with just over three minutes left in the first half.
  • The first half for the Bobcats rounded out with a steal from the Lions by Joe, followed by a Russell jumper to close out the half 34-36.
  • Bobcats started the second half by tying the Lions at 36-36 (layup from Jones) and 38-38 (jumper from Russell).
  • Lions went on a 14-0 run to give them a double-digit lead over the Bobcats, 52-38.
  • A layup from Russell and a free throw from Ahman Ellington began to close the Lion advantage 43-54.
  • Jones brought the Bobcats within 11 of the Lions, 50-61, with 5:27 left in the game.
  • Jones followed up by recording the next five points for the Bobcats, 55-61. 
  • Christian DeJean added to the Bobcat total, bringing them within single-digits of the Lions, 58-67.
  • With just under one minute left in regulation, DeJean recorded a free throw to have the Bobcats within six, 63-69.
  • A jumper by Richmond with 0:17 seconds remaining brought the Bobcats within three points of the Lions, 66-69.
  • DeJean contributed to the Bobcat score for the last time with a layup, 68-70 in favor of the Lions with 0:03 left in regulation.
  • The Bobcats recorded 22 points from turnovers, 12 second-chance points, and 30 points in the paint.

St. Thomas University enters into the Sun Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 23, to face Thomas University from the Fernandez Family Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
