MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (June 28, 2021) -
Zach Moss and
Fred Lymas have been hired as Assistant Coaches for the St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team announces Head Coach
Patrick Crarey II.Â
Moss joins STU Bobcats Basketball after spending the 2020-21 season as the recruiting coordinator for Next College Student-Athlete (NCSA). He was responsible for connecting high school student-athletes with collegiate coaches across the country. Moss returns to the Sun Conference, spending 2013-2020 as the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at Ave Maria University.Â
"Zach has been a coach I have admired from afar for years," said Crarey. "He is a relentless recruiter and excellent manager of people. He has been a championship coach in the Sun Conference, and we look forward to him helping us reach the same goal here at St. Thomas."Â
During his time at Ave Maria, Moss was instrumental in turning the Gyrenes into a nationally respected program, winning the Sun Conference Tournament Championship and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history. Moss led game-planning and scouting efforts for AMU, which led to top-ten finishes in various areas. In 2014-15, Ave Maria finished first in rebounds, second in scoring defense, seventh in field goal percentage, and added the number one three-point defense in the NAIA in 2018-19. Moss was the primary recruiter for several of the top players in program history for the Gyrenes, including the only two-time All-American for Ave Maira, Leo Behrend.Â
Moss also brings nine years of high school coaching experience in Naples, Fla., leading three different programs to state tournament appearances.Â
Lymas comes to STU from Avant Grade Academy, and reunites with Crarey to help lead Bobcat Basketball. Lymas coached alongside Crarey at Washington Adventist University from 2009 - 2013, where Lymas was responsible for recruiting, player development, and scouting. While assisting Crarey at WAU, the Shock made back-to-back trips to the USCAA Tournament.
"Fred and I have come full circle; he was my first assistant Washington Adventist and helped set the foundation for the program," added Crarey. "Fred is an excellent teacher of the game, who has been coaching in South Florida for the past eight seasons. We're blessed to have him at St. Thomas."
Following his time at Washington Adventist, Lymas moved to South Florida to serve as an Assistant Coach at Barry University from 2013-2016. Lymas helped lead the program to a 25-6 record in 2014-15, as the Buccaneers were ranked as high as second in the nation and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Lymas has also coached internationally, making stops in Colombia, the Cayman Islands, and Aruba.Â
The 2021-22 season marks the first season under Head Coach
Patrick Crarey II. The Bobcats have advanced to consecutive Sun Conference Tournament Championships and went 14-11 during the 2020-21 season.
