(RV) Bobcats in Great Position Ahead of Sun Conference Tournament After Defeating Warriors in Season Finale

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team defeated the Warriors of Webber International in the regular season finale. After some Sun Conference games wrap up tonight, the Bobcats put themselves in position to enter the tournament as the second seed.

Justin Rogers and the Bobcats came out flying, with Rogers scoring four of the first eight points while also assisting two. Milton Matthews gave STU a 6-point lead after driving to the bucket on the fast break. The Warriors however wouldn't back down, and took the lead with a three. Dalon Dean responded right away drilling one from behind the arch to keep adding to his three-ball total.

Fred Mulbah started to extend the Bobcat lead, banking one off the glass for a contested lay. Despite the effort to break away early on, the Warriors took a 2-point lead. A little while later, Dalon Dean reclaimed the lead for STU making yet another from deep. The Bobcats started to run away with it after Jordan Hernandez put one through the net from deep, followed by Joshua Thrower throwing one off the glass right after.

The Bobcats took their biggest lead of the game thus far, with Joshua Thrower throwing one down over a Webber defender. Despite the effort of the Warriors trying to fight their way back in for a more manageable second half, the Bobcats took a 9-point lead into the room.

Fred Mulbah got to work early in the second half, getting to the line and getting the double digit lead back. Webber went on to make a couple of unanswered points getting to within 6-points. Fred Mulbah said not too fast, making back-to-back layups off the fast break.

The Warriors never went away, with the Bobcats not shooting their best, this was a 5-point game with just under 13 minutes to play. After some back and forth with the score remaining around the same margin, D'Andre Johnson gave the Bobcats the edge they needed after slamming one and getting the bench fired up.

Milton Matthews made it a double digit lead again draining another from behind the line. STU would pretty much maintain a double digit lead the rest of the game, never allowing the Warriors any breathing room. Final score 68-57 in favor of the Bobcats.
