MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 15, 2024) – The St. Thomas University Men's Basketball team defeated the Pikeville Bears to advance to the second round of the NAIA Tournament, and will play The Masters tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. inside the Fernandez Family Center.
In the opening minutes of the game, St. Thomas Men's Basketball team came out with crisp shooting, hitting 50% of their shots from the field. Although the three-pointers weren't falling initially, they compensated with efficiency inside the arc, led by the dynamic duo of
Milton Matthews and
Cearius Warren, each tallying four points early on.
Anthony Harris also chipped in two points as the team showcased balanced scoring.
As the first half progressed, St. Thomas found their rhythm, particularly from long range, connecting on 60% of their three-point attempts.
Anthony Harris caught fire, leading the charge with an impressive 14 points, while
Josh Taylor and
Daniel Ogoro contributed with six and four points respectively.
Milton Matthews remained consistent, adding three more points to his tally.
Coming out of the halftime break, St. Thomas wasted no time asserting their dominance, embarking on an 11 to five run fueled by efficient shooting and tenacious defense.

In the latter part of the second half, despite some turnovers creeping into their game, St. Thomas maintained their offensive momentum, shooting over 60% from the field.
Anthony Harris continued his stellar performance, adding eight more points to his tally, while Warren and Taylor matched his output with eight points each. Matthews contributed an additional three points, solidifying St. Thomas' comprehensive team effort.
