Gainesville, Fla. – In a matchup between the previous two Florida Collegiate Conference D1AA Champions to kick off the 2025 season on Saturday, the reigning Champions St. Thomas Rugby Team defeated Florida State 31-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Florida State took an early lead on a try in the 14th minute, failing to convert the kick to make it 5-0.
- Matt Arteta capitalized on a FSU error at their five-yard line and ran it back to even the score before a Charumbira conversion made it 7-5.
- Charumbira led a Bobcats' try early in the second half and converted his try to create a 14-5 advantage.
- Matubatuba found Mapani for a try with a Charumbira conversion extending the lead to 21-5.
- Charumbira scored a penalty to add three points for STU and made it 24-5.
- Nokutenda Mukumba added seven points to the Bobcats' lead on a penalty try to make it 31-5.
- FSU ended the match with a penalty try.
