2020-2021 STU Spirit Team Information

What we look for:
The St. Thomas University Dance Team serves as representatives for the University at various athletic and community events. The STU Dance Team are student ambassadors that represent an athletic image and above all superior showmanship!
 
Dance Team Requirements:
Eligibility for Dancers

• Must be a full-time undergraduate student at STU for the fall & spring semester. Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum of 12 credits and graduate students must maintain a minimum of 6 credits.
• Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
• If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student, you must provide a letter of acceptance into the university.
• If you are a current student, you must provide a copy of your student ID and proof of enrollment
• Dance at home football & basketball games throughout the year.
• Travel to possible selected away football game and basketball tournaments.
• Practice at least three times per week during the school year. 
• Participate in various promotional or community service events throughout the year.
• Adhere to all team rules and regulations

Skills to expect include:
NO Experience needed but is welcomed!!!
• Dance Experience (i.e. Hip Hop, Pom, and Jazz)
• Technical Skills (i.e. pirouettes, split leaps, pique turns, calypso leaps, and kip ups)
 
Evaluations will be based on a pom, hip- hop, and jazz routine (all taught at auditions) as well as across the floor, projections, extension, overall impression, along with any additional dance technique (free style). We recommend you bring all necessary shoes for all styles of dance. Newcomers or first year members will have to perform a one-minute solo in their desired style. Please e-mail music and style to AishaDavis@stu.edu prior to audition date

What to turn in prior to auditions

1. Audition application and release form
2. Headshot and full body shot
3. Acceptance letter or proof of enrollment
4. Copy of front and back of insurance card 
5. Recommendation letter from a coach, teacher, administrator, or manager 

Attire for Auditions
 
Women

• Athletic shorts and sports bra: form-fitting, midriff bearing top 
• STU Colors- We offer a wide selection of STU attire that you can purchase in our STU bookstore on campus 
• Hair should be worn down with loose curls
• Face makeup, lipstick, blush, and mascara
• No jewelry
• Cover all visible tattoos

Men

• Athletic shorts and a t-shirt or tank top
• STU Colors- We offer a wide selection of STU attire that you can purchase in our STU bookstore on campus
• Sneakers and or athletic shoes
• No piercings or visible tattoos
• Well-groomed and clean shaven
