Jacob Shaw enters his second season as the Associate Head Coach for the St. Thomas Men's Basketball team. Coach Shaw is involved in all aspects of the program, with a focus on recruiting, on court coaching, and player development.
During his first season in Miami Gardens, Shaw played a vital role in the recruitment and development of All-Sun Conference First Team member Kaleb Myers. Under Shaw's guidance, Myers had his most productive collegiate season behind 16.0 points per game on a .582 field goal percentage with 8.6 rebounds.
Shaw previously served as an assistant coach on Ansar Al-Ameen’s staff at Florida Memorial University during the 2021–2022 season. He played an integral role in helping the team capture the Sun Conference Championship and secure a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
Before transitioning to the collegiate level, Shaw was the head boys’ basketball coach at Miami Beach Senior High School from 2013 to 2021. During his nine-year tenure, he guided the team to two regional finals and two district championship appearances. His program produced 26 collegiate athletes, including two NCAA Division I players—one of whom was ranked among the top five high school players in the nation.
In addition to his coaching duties, Shaw founded MiamiDadeBBHoops.com, a leading online basketball publication that covered high school basketball across Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida.
Earlier in his career, Shaw coached the girls’ basketball team at Miami Beach Senior High from 2008 to 2012. Under his leadership, the team reached three regional finals and won three district titles. Two of his players advanced to NCAA Division I programs, and 13 others continued at various collegiate levels.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Shaw was an All-City standout at Detroit Pershing High School, helping his team compile an 88–9 record and win four consecutive Eastside Conference championships.
He continued his playing career at Bismarck State College (N.D.), where he was regarded as one of the top junior college players in the country. He later transferred to the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.), leading the team to the NAIA Final Four in 2004. He holds a bachelor’s degree in wellness.
Shaw currently resides in Miami, Florida, while his parents, Everin and Taryn Crook, and siblings—Larrance, Arkishi, Tabitha, Tamara, Tynikki, and Whitney—remain in Michigan.
