Jeffrey Steel will be entering his 2nd year as Graduate Assistant Coach, under Head Coach Zachary Moss, at St. Thomas University. Steel's responsibilities included Video Coordinating, Data & Analytics, Player Development, Scouting, Organizing STU MBB events, and more. During the season, Steel worked closely with Milton Matthews doing individual work out sessions and individual film sessions. Milton finished the season as an NAIA All American and First Team All-Conference. With his support, Milton led the Nation in 3pt makes, broke a program record for most points in a game (45), and almost doubled his FT Attempts from the year prior.
Steel also served as a Head Coach for the Men's Basketball Development program.
Prior to St. Thomas, Steel began his coaching career at his Alma Mater at Doral Academy. Steel served as the Head Assistant Coach where the team won their first District Championship under Coach Michael Hunt. In addition, the team captured the Kelleher Law Holiday Hoopfest Tournament Championship, a very competitive local tournament in southwest Florida and finished with an overall record of 20-7. Steel worked closely developing Gabriel Hernandez who finished the season 1st Team All County and earned a full scholarship at Barry University. Steel also served as the Head Coach for the JV Team and finished with an 11-2 record in his 1st year as a coach.
As a player, Steel played 2 years at Ave Maria University with Head Coach, Zach Moss. Coach Steel helped AMU capture their 1st Conference Tournament Championship in program history and first ever National Tournament Appearance. In his senior year, Steel served as Captain of the team and helped lead his team to an 8-0 start and finishing with a 20-10 record. During that time, Steel helped lead Ave to the highest national ranking in program history (#12). Some of his highlight games include a win vs. Nationally Ranked Voorhees College who had a 20+ home game winning streak. The win for Ave Maria marked their 1st win on the road against a nationally ranked team in program history. Steel's stats for the contest included 18pts, 4 rebounds, 4 assist, 3 steals. Steel also recorded 23 points (6 3pt makes) against Nationally Ranked NCAA Division II Lynn University.
Coach Steel has a degree in Business Administration from Ave Maria University and is currently completing his MBA in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University.
