Michael Mominey returned to St. Thomas University during the 2025-26 academic year, first serving as the Interim Vice President for Philanthropy (September – December 2025) prior to taking on his current role as the Vice President for Athletics Revenue Generation and Strategy in January 2026. Mominey first served STU as an assistant baseball coach/assistant athletic director from 1992-1996, while earning a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration (‘94).
The former Director of Athletics at Nova Southeastern University (2002-2024), Mominey built a nationally recognized NCAA Division II program that won 13 national championships in seven different sports, and 51 Sunshine State Conference titles, all while the Sharks student-athletes maintained a 3.41 GPA during his tenure. Widely respected as a servant transformational leader and championship culture builder, Mominey is deeply committed to overall student success as well as creating an impact through philanthropy. His work continues to engage alumni, trustees, and community leaders in meaningful partnerships that drive institutional excellence.
Mominey took on additional duties during his tenure at NSU, as the Associate Vice President for Advancement (2021-2024), where he was instrumental in helping lead the university’s $1 billion capital campaign, securing over $25 million in philanthropic and corporate gifts for athletics—including $10 million for student-athlete scholarship endowments. He began his career at NSU, serving as the Head Baseball Coach (2000-2010), winning over 300 games and coaching 3 former Shark players who went on to successful careers at the MLB level.
Mominey’s influence extends beyond the university. He is an active community leader, serving on the Executive Corporate Board of the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County (2020–present), as an Honorary Board Member of the Special Olympics of Broward County (2018–present), and as a long-time member of the Orange Bowl Committee (2007–2024). He also served on the NACDA Executive Board for the Division II Athletic Directors Association (2019–2024) and was recognized as NACDA’s NCAA Division II Athletic Director of the year in 2024.
Michael Mominey holds a Master of Science in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University (’94) and a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Bowling Green State University (’90). A resident of Davie Florida and native of Euclid Ohio, Mominey is the proud husband of Denise (Kacsik) Mominey and proud father to their children, Tyler and Alexa.
