Miami Gardens, Fla. - The St. Thomas University Bobcats women's soccer team suffered their first loss of season to fellow Sun Conference rival the Savannah College of Art & Design Bees 4-0. Melissa Feuerriegel scored two goals for the Bees.
The game began like most do for the Bobcats (1-1, 1-1 in SC) as they controlled possession of the ball. Part of that ball control came from quick feet from the Bobcats and the other part came from the numerous off-sides called on the Bees (2-0), they would end the game with 19 total.
During the 42nd minute the Bobcats looked poised to score the first goal of the game when Mimi Lounio took the ball away from a Bees player approached the goal from the right hand side and took a shot that drifted to the left of the goal.
After that shot the momentum began to shift towards the Bees as they began to win the several 50-50 jump balls. Feuerriegel capitalized on the extra possession first as she chased down a loose ball in the middle of the field and placed the ball to the left of Bobcat goalkeeper Maria Mora for the goal.
Feuerriegel scored a second goal in the open field with Bobcat defender Melissa Chang on her hip after she maneuvered past Mora and put the ball into the lower left hand corner of the goal.
The next two goals for the Bees would be scored by Lauren O'Malley and Helene O'Hagan. Each would be assisted by Gabby Levandowski.
The closest the Bobcats came to putting a point on the board came after Jobeth Ramirez put her foot to a long ball that fell just out of reach of the Bees goalkeeper but landed onto the crossbar during the 18th minute.
Mora played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bobcats, allowed four goals and made three saves. Rosanna Lamprey played all 90 minutes for the Bees and made two saves. The Bobcats will play again September 7 at Webber International at 4 PM.
