Antonio Jones answered with a baseline floater as the horn sounded to come out with the victory.
The Bobcats struggled early allowing Lynn to lead by as many as 11 in the opening period. STU rallied with a 7-2 run in the waning minutes of the half and cut the deficit to just four at 30-26 heading into the break.
STU shot just 36% from the field in the first half and were outrebounded 12-21. Jones led the Bobcats in scoring at the break with 11 points on 4-10 shooting.
Jones and Hall proved to be worth the ticket price in the second half scoring 23 and 24 points, respectively. In the final two minutes of play, Jones accounted for 10 of STU's 12 points while Hall scored all of Lynn's eight. The Bobcats' improved play in the second period and Jones' game winning field goal were enough to narrowly escape The de Hoernle Center with their first win of the season.
The Bobcats improved their shooting in the second half, dropping 55% (16-29) of their shots. STU recorded a respectable 82% (9-11) from the free throw line in the second period, an improvement from the two points scored at the charity strip in the first half. STU lost the rebound battle 29-39, but took advantage of Lynn's 22 turnovers. Jones led the Bobcats in scoring for the contest with 34.
Walter Fortson added 13 points and 4 rebounds, and
Tracy Razz had a nice game with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
STU (1-0) will compete in the Valdosta Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Bobcats face Valdosta State (Ga.) Friday and Georgia Southwestern Saturday.
