MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Lady Bobcats opened Sun Conference play Saturday afternoon with a loss to rival Fla. Memorial, 68-76.
The Lions (5-8) took a 1-point lead into the half after outshooting the Bobcats 48-28 percent in the game's first stanza. STU was able to hang around with strong free-throw shooting, dropping 16-of-20 from the line. The rebounding and turnover battles were fairly even in the opening period, setting the stage for an exciting finish. Cindy Castrillon led all scorers before the break with 10.
The Bobcats put up a fight but could not slow the defending Conference Champions' shooting as they recorded 68 percent (15-of-22) in the second half. Castrillon cooled off in the late and failed to hit a field goal in the second period while Alexandria Vanterpool added 10 of her own. The Bobcats (5-5) will face St. Francis in the Fernandez Center Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
