MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Ave Maria Gyrenes came to the Fernandez Center Saturday with hopes of knocking out the Bobcats on their home floor. STU rallied behind an Antonio Jones 3-pointer just before the half and never let the Gyrenes within single digits for the remainder of the game. STU came out with their fourth Sun Conference win, 70-53. While the Bobcats shot a poor 50 percent from the free-throw line, they managed to drop 53 percent of their shots from the field (27-51). St. Thomas lost the rebounding battle handily, 22-36, but made up for it by forcing 31 turnovers. The Gyrenes were only able to capitalize on one of their twelve three-pointers, keeping them from mounting a lead against the resilient Bobcats. STU improves to 4-5 in the Sun Conference, and 8-11 overall. The Bobcats will welcome Warner on Tuesday for a 7 PM matchup. Jones led all scorers with 22 (8-14), while new-comer Jarell Coakley provided 13 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. David Nesbitt, Ian Gregory, and Walter Fortson all supported with 9 points apiece.
