MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Bobcats welcomed Sun Conference opponent Northwood (12-1) to the Fernandez Center Wednesday for STU's first league game. The Seahawks came in ranked 4th in the country and came out with their twelfth victory of the season, beating the Bobcats 61-71.
The Bobcats did not step down from the challenge of taking on the #4 team in the nation and the battle started midway through the first half. STU held a 5-point lead at the eight minute mark before the Seahawks turned a 9-2 run into a 2-point lead. The back-and-forth first half saw four ties and three lead changes, but Northwood took a 33-29 advantage into the locker room.
Antonio Jones led the Bobcats in scoring the first with 13.
STU fought hard in the second and took a 36-35 lead at the sixteen minute mark. Unfortunately, the Seahawks stepped it up with a 10-2 run and did not relinquish their lead for the rest of the game. The Bobcats had eighteen second-half fouls in comparison to just ten for Northwood. This allowed the Seahawks to get easy points from the free-throw line where they shot 70 percent (19-27).
Jones led the game in scoring with 32, while
Tracy Razz supported with 10. Northwood's points were much more spread out as they had four players in double digits. The Bobcats (4-7) will face Sun Conference opponent Warner on Saturday at 4 p.m.
