MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The St. Thomas Volleyball team hit the road this weekend to finish up the remainder of their conference season. STU lost Friday night to Northwood, 3-1, and claimed their 19th win of the season against Ave Maria Saturday.
The Volleyball team was riding a six-game winning streak heading into Friday's match at Northwood. STU stumbled in a close match and surrendered to the Seahawks, 19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-27. NU's attack edged the Bobcats .242 - .190, with 61 kills to STU's 50. Defensively, Northwood recorded 75 digs while St. Thomas totaled 61.
Betina Schmidt led STU with 16 kills while
Angie Ardiles led the Bobcats with 17 digs.
Saturday, St. Thomas headed to the west coast to take on Ave Maria. STU made sure to rebound from Friday's loss and did so in four games versus the Gyrenes. St. Thomas hit at a .277 clip with Schmidt leading the way in kills once again, this time with 14. Schmidt also recorded 17 assists and 8 digs. Ardiles provided another sound defensive performance with 22 digs. St. Thomas took the match 25-16, 19-25, 25-15, 25-9.
STU moves to 19-5 on the season and 9-3 in the conference. The Bobcats will go to Florida Memorial Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
