STU Women’s Basketball wraps up the weekend as the #1 team in the Sun Conference

Miami Gardens, Fla. — STU Women's Basketball wraps up the weekend with two wins to push their conference record to 7-1. The Bobcats are now the first place team in the Sun Conference after local rival Florida Memorial University fell this weekend to Northwood.

Over the weekend, STU faced Northwood University in Palm Beach, Fla where they won with a final score of 71-54. Freshman, #11 Antonella Marino led all scorers with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 steals in 39 minutes of play. #25 Dannisha Pierce recorded another double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals.  With this win, the Bobcats are locked in a 3 way tie for first place in the Sun Conference with Ave Maria University and  FMU.

On Saturday, STU returned to their home court to battle it out with AMU. At halftime the Bobcats led by a score of 38-23. The Gyrenes battled back quickly with three 3 pointers by #3 Tamica Mora. AMU cut lead to 5 points with less than three minutes to go, but the Bobcats remained victorious. The final score was 78-66. #12 Nickerline Montina led the offense with 23 points and #02 Maddie Cummings followed with 19. #11 Antonella Marino also dished out 7 assists, while #25 Dannisha Pierce recorded a double-double for the second consecutive game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Bobcats forced the Gyrenes into 21 turnovers and shot a team high 90% from the free-throw line.

STU ladies improve to 13-7 overall and 7-1 in the Sun Conference. The Ladies jump back into action on February 1st, 2011 at 7 PM versus Warner University. Go Bobcats!
