STU women's basketball loses to Voorhees 61-60

Clutch basket down the stretch sinks Bobcats

MIAMI GAREDENS, Fla- The STU women's basketball team was in action Friday Afternoon taking on Voorhees College, inside the Fernandez Center. STU lost the match 61-60.

 STU would jump out to a 42 to 33 lead going into the halftime. The first half was a tightly contested affair with each side trading baskets early. Roxy Munoz lead all scorers for the Bobcats early on with 11 points 2 assists and 1 steal. She was a dominant force for STU early on and helped the Bobcats overcome an early deficit to take the lead. Kierra Patterson led all scorers for the visiting Tigers with 12.

 The second half would get underway with Voorhees regaining the lead. STU would battle valiantly to get a 60-59 lead after a late free throw from Roxy Munoz. But Voorhees would get another possession and Rashonda Mayfield would hit a clutch fade away jumper in the paint to give Voorhees the lead with 3 seconds remaining on the clock. 

STU would get a subsequent possession but would turn the ball over after attempting a full court pass.

 Roxy Munoz would finish the game with 17 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Antonella Marino would score 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Nickerline Montina had 10 points, 1 block and 2 steals.

 Rashonda Mayfield led Voorhees with 23 points, 5 assists and 1 block.
