STU DEFEATS RANKED OPPONENT FOR 11TH STRAIGHT WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla- The 21st ranked St. Thomas men's basketball team defeated No. 17 Southeastern, 58-50, Thursday night at the Fernandez Center. The Bobcats secured their 11th straight victory with outstanding individual performances from sophomore guard Kevin Hincapie and senior forward David Nesbitt to lead STU to its second straight victory over a ranked opponent.
 
The Bobcats improved to 12-7, 5-1 in the Sun Conference, while Southeastern fell to 12-6, 4-1 in conference.
 
Hincapie finished with 24 points and was 8-14 from the field including six three-pointers. Nesbitt registered a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, along with three blocked shots.
 
The Bobcats had a slim lead going into the half with the score at 26-24. Midway through the second half, STU exploded offensively coming from behind with a 9-2 run, powered by Hincapie who hit three consecutive threes to give STU a lead that they would not look back from.
 
St. Thomas will look to extend its win streak to 12 games on Saturday at 4 p.m. at conference foe Ave Maria.  STU's next home game is Wednesday, January 25 vs. cross-street rival Florida Memorial.
