MIAMI GARDENS, Fla- The 14
th ranked St. Thomas women's basketball team (16-4, 6-0) defeated Southeastern (7-11, 3-4), 61-51, Saturday afternoon at the Fernandez Family Center.
STU improved to a perfect 6-0 in The Sun Conference with another impressive performance by senior forward
Nickerline Montina who registered 20 points and 7 rebounds.
Junior forward
Constina Cousins also had an impressive game for the Bobcats with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward
Dannisha Pierce chipped in with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
The Bobcats trailed the Fire for the first eight minutes of the game before taking their first lead at 10-9. An 18-4 run propelled STU to a 24-13 lead with 6:27 remaining in the first half. The lead would grow to 17 at the half with the score 36-19. STU had its largest lead of the game of 23 points with 11:40 to go in the second. Southeastern would chip away of STU's lead, but never get within single-digits.
The Bobcats will be in action next Saturday, January 28 at cross-street rival Florida Memorial. The next home game will be Friday, February 3
rd vs. Northwood.
