AVE MARIA, Fla. – The St. Thomas men's basketball team won its 12th consecutive game on Saturday defeating conference foe Ave Maria by the final score of 76-66.
The win streak is the nation's longest active win streak in NAIA DII Basketball. The streak started on Dec. 1 and has included four wins vs. NCAA teams and six wins over conference opponents. With Sunday's win over Ave Maria, St. Thomas took over first place in the Sun Conference standings with a 6-1 conference record to go along with an overall record of 13-6.
Sophomore guard
Kevin Hincapie led STU in scoring vs. the Gyrenes with 20 points which included a 9-fof-10 shotting from the free throw line. Hincapie was effective on both offense and defense registering a team-high four assists and three steals in 33 minutes.
Junior guard Kodahamus Llongbey was the only other Bobcatto score in double figures with 12 points. Sophomore forward
Heberto Guanipa led all players with seven rebounds, including three offensive boards. As a team, STU outrebounded AMU, 31 to 24.
The Bobcats look to extend their win streak to 13 games as they return back home to the Fernandez Family Center for a clash vs. backyard rival Florida Memorial on Wednesday at 7 p.m. In their first meeting on Jan. 11 at Florida Memorial. STU defeated the Lions, 65-64 in overtime, for the 10
th win of the 13-game winning streak. On the season, the Bobcats are a perfect 6-0 in home games at the Fernandez Center.
