Kevin Hincapie hit a 12-foot jumper to give St. Thomas (3-0) a 53-51 win over cross-town rival Barry (1-1) at the Fernandez Family Center. It was the second straight game decided by less than two points for the Bobcats, while all three of STU's wins have come by four points or less.
St. Thomas led by as many as 15 points in the first half and took a 37-27 lead into halftime. Barry went on to outscore the Bobcats 24-14 in the second half, tying the game at 51-51 on a jumper by Chad Renfro with 47 seconds left. Freshman forward Juan Camacho pulled down an offensive rebound on a missed three-pointer by
Dylan O'Sullivan, setting up the Hincapie game-winner coming out a timeout by the Bobcats.
Hincapie led all scorers with 16 points on five-of-seven shooting, including two-of-three on three-pointers. Guards
Zakary Hackett (13 pts.) and
Floyd Battle (11 pts.) also scored in double figures for the Bobcats. Renfro led Barry with 14 points.
St. Thomas returns to action with a road game on Thursday at Nova Southeastern. The Bobcats return to the Fernandez Family Center with their Sun Conference opener vs. Southeastern on Saturday, Dec. 1.
