MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – In a hard fought battle at the Fernandez Center Saturday night, the St. Thomas men's basketball team prevailed over Webber International, 61-58.  The win improved the Bobcats to 18-7 on the season and 9-1 in The Sun Conference with three regular season games remaining.

Senior forward David Nesbitt scored 12 points, all coming in the second half, to lead the Bobcats. Senior center Everson Lacerda recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Kevin Hincapie had 10 points, with eight points in the second half.

The game came down to the final minute as Hincapie hit two free throws to tie the game and then give STU the lead 59-58 with 58 seconds to go.  On the next possession, freshman swingman Lorel Beckford blocked a shot by Webber's David Swan and then pulled down an offensive rebound off a Hincapie miss with 23 seconds left.  Beckford was immediately fouled, then hit two free throws to put the Bobcats up by three.  The Warriors would miss two desperation three-pointers as time expired.

St. Thomas trailed Webber, 33-25 at the half shooting just 33% in the opening stanza.  The Bobcats would explode with an 11-2 run to give STU the lead 36-35 with 17:30 to go.  Webber would pull away with an eight-point lead, 56-48, with 6:46 remaining.  The Bobcats then outscored the Warriors 13-2 down the stretch aided by a three-pointer by senior Eugene Davis and a dunk by Nesbitt on an alley-oop pass from sophomore Dylan O'Sullivan.

The Bobcats return to action on Monday when they travel to Southeastern.  STU then returns home to the Fernandez Center for a game vs. Embry-Riddle on Thursday followed by the regular season finale on Saturday vs. Ave Maria.
