MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Splitting a two-game road trip Friday and Saturday, the 14th ranked St. Thomas women's basketball team completed its 2011-12 regular season with a 22-6 overall record and a 12-2 record in The Sun Conference.

The Bobcats will head into The Sun Conference postseason tournament as the number two seed and face Johnson & Wales in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Fernandez Center.  Then on Friday and Saturday, St. Thomas will host this year's Sun Conference Women's Basketball Championship Presented by Shula's Hotel and Golf Club.

On Friday night, the Bobcats traveled upstate to Lakeland, Fla. to take on Southeastern.  STU prevailed with a 68-63 win led by forwards Nickerline Montina and Dannisha Pierce who each scored 18 points. Guard Maddie Cuminngs was the team's leading rebounder with eight to go along with her 16 points.

The Bobcats then traveled south on I-75 to Ave Maria, Fla. to take on the Ave Maria University Gyrenes in what was hailed as the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Game of the Week with the conference regular season title on the line.  The first half was a tight affair with both teams shooting over 50% from the field and AMU holding a 37-35 advantage at the break. To start the second half however, Ave Maria busted out with a 15-0 run and never looked back en route to a 72-51 win over St. Thomas.
