Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The St. Thomas men's soccer team defeated pre-season Sun Conference favorite Embry-Riddle, 2-1, on a late goal Wednesday night at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla. With the win, the Bobcats seized sole possession of first place in The Sun Conference with a 3-0 conference record to go along with a 4-2-1 record overall.
St. Thomas has now won the last three regular season meetings with Embry-Riddle. In 2011, the Bobcats defeated the Eagles 2-1 at home, while in 2010 STU shut out Embry-Riddle 3-0 in Daytona Beach.

Jhonathan Rico headed a cross from sophomore
Olando Lawrence past the Embry-Riddle goalkeeper for the game winner in the 87
th minute. Rico's goal was his fifth goal this season and the 31
st goal in his STU career.
Lawrence scored the game's opening goal to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage early in the first half on an assist by senior
Shardy Sanon. The Eagle countered with a goal to tie the score with 15:43 remaining in the first half. Both teams had opportunites through the rest of the first half and for most of the second half, but neither could capitalize until Rico's game winner.
The Bobcats led the Eagle in shots on goal with a 6-4 advantage. Junior goalkeeper
Lyle Howe recorded four saves for STU.
St. Thomas returns to action with a home exhibition vs. Broward College on Saturday at 4 p.m., before continuing conference play with trips to SCAD Savannah (Oct. 5) and Thomas (Oct. 7).
