BOBCATS BEAT LIONS WITH DOMINANT 2ND HALF

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The 16th ranked St. Thomas (19-2, 7-0) won its seventh straight game with a 71-50 win over neighboring rival Florida Memorial (5-13, 2-5). 

The Bobcats were led by senior forward Constina Cousins who scored 19 points, with 13 of her points coming in the second half.  Senior Dannisha Pierce led STU on the boards with 10 rebounds.  Jasmin Sakers and Shanika Brooks each chipped in with 12 points.

Leading by six points at halftime, the Bobcats put together a dominant second half outscoring the Lions 35-20.  Defensively, the Bobcats held the Lions scoreless for nearly seven minutes during one stretch of the second half, opening up a 60-38 lead with 6:41 remaining. 

With the win, the Bobcats remained in first place in The Sun Conference, one full game ahead of Ave Maria (13-7, 6-1). The Bobcats also hold the tiebreaker over Ave Maria, having defeated the Gyrenes on the road, 57-51 on Jan. 18. STU will meet Ave Maria again in the regular season finale on Feb. 16 at the Fernandez Family Center.

St. Thomas returns to action this Friday at Northwood, followed by a road game on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Johnson & Wales.  STU's next home game is on Friday, Feb. 8 vs. Warner at the Fernandez Family Center.  A rematch with the Lions will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Florida Memorial.
