OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION BY BOBCATS RESULTS IN 2-0 CONFERENCE START

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – With season highs in points scored and field goals made, St. Thomas (14-2, 2-0) defeated Northwood (5-8, 0-2), 92-62, Saturday afternoon at the Fernandez Family Center.  The Bobcats shot 37-for-68 (54%) from the field, including five made three-pointers, en route to their 92 total points. 
 
For the second consecutive game, four different St. Thomas players scored in double figures with two players scoring 20 or higher.  Senior forward Constina Cousins scored 23 points, the fourth time this season she has gone over 20 points.  Freshman Jessica Montalvo shot nine-for-13 from the field to score a career-high 20 points with 14 of her 20 coming in the second half.
 
Junior forward Dannisha Pierce notched her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Junior guard Berna Miranda went three-for-six from beyond the arc to score 16 points, while dishing out a team-high five assists.
 
St. Thomas ran out to a 17-9 lead to open the game, followed by an 11-3 Northwood scoring run that tied the game at 20 with ten minutes to play in the first half.  The Bobcats responded with an 8-0 run as they went on to outscore the Seahawks 24-11 for the remainder of the first half.
 
Northwood cut the lead to ten points at 63-53 and again at 69-59, but could not get any closer as the Bobcats eventually pulled away for the 20-point win.
 
Northwood was led by Sharnele Brown who had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
 
St. Thomas continues conference play next weekend with road games at Sun Conference foes Warner and Webber International.
