BOBCATS WIN BIG ON SENIORS DAY

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - On an afternoon where eight Bobcat seniors were honored, the St. Thomas University men's soccer team defeated Southeastern 4-0 in a Sun Conference match Thursday afternoon at Bobcat Field. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 2-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in The Sun Conference, while the Fire fell to 5-6-2 overall and 1-4-1 in league play.

The Bobcats jumped on the Fire early with a goal by Tony Mamodaly, his second of the season, on an assist by Ignacio Mateos in the 19th minute of play. Defender Alex Rodrigo, pushing forward on an STU corner kick, scored less than two minutes later off a pass from Michael Weatherly. Carlos Cruz scored his second goal of the year in the 43rd minute to give the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage at intermission.

St. Thomas held Southeastern scoreless for the entire second half as well while adding another insurance goal in the 73rd minute as Weatherly scored his second goal of the year of another Mateos assist. Goalkeeper Adam Green was credited with the shutout in a game where STU outshot SEU 10-4.

At the traditional annual Senior Day, the 2013 senior class was honored in a pre-game ceremony attended by family members and friends. Honored on Tuesday were seniors Manuel Andreani, Guillermo Huaman, Daniel Marulanda, Ignacio Mateos, Matt Rickards, Junior Montano, Philippe Silveira, Alex Rodrigo.

The game marked the final home game of the season for St. Thomas. The Bobcats finish the regular season with four consecutive home games beginning on Saturday at Ave Maria.
