MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The St. Thomas University men's soccer team battled back from a one-goal deficit to defeat Ave Maria on the road 2-1 in a Sun Conference matchup. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 2-4-1 in conference play.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime on the road,
Olando Lawrence scored an unassisted goal in the 58th minute of regulation. Then, with the score tied 1-1 and less than 11 minutes to play, Michael Weatherly score the game-winner off an assist by
Ignacio Mateos. The Bobcats defense held off the Gyrenes until the end of regulation, able to leave Southwest Florida with a W.
Deljan Bregassi returned as the STU goalkeeper and made five saves. He allowed just the one goal, shutting out the Gyrenes for the final 66:39.
St. Thomas continues its road stretch to finish out the season with a conference road game at Northwood on Wednesday, October 23 at 3 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
