STRAIGHT SETS ON SENIOR NIGHT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - On a night that honored seniors Gaby Huaroto-Luque, Nicole McInnis, and Rosa Viera, the St. Thomas University women's volleyball team took care of Florida Memorial in straigh sets in the regular season finale for both teams. The Bobcats handled the Lions with ease winning the first set 25-9, the second set 25-5, then putting the match away with a 25-18 win in set number three.

McInnis led the Bobcats with 12 kills in the win. Huaroto-Luque had a team-best 12 digs to go along with two service aces. Viera got in on one block, had two kills and one assist.

#28 GABY HUAROTO-LUQUE
POSITION:

Defensive Specialist who has taken on a leadership role and been a key player for the Bobcats in her four seasons with career totals of 363 digs, 19 service aces and 28 assists…this season ranks third on the team with 163 total digs and 2.5 digs-per-game…had a season-high 21 digs in win vs. Webber International followed the next day by a 20-dig match vs. Warner…has recorded double-digit digs in six matches this season, including a stretch where she had 14 or more digs in five straight games (Sept. 7 – 21)…had 14 digs and a service ace in a match against highly ranked Embry-Riddle on September 20…has recorded at least two digs in all but two matches played this year…has served 10 aces this season including multiple-ace matches vs. Kansas Wesleyan and Warner…also has eight assists this year, including a multiple assist match at Embry-Riddle…in 2012, she played in 20 sets as a defensive specialist…posted season-high with two service aces vs. Northwood on September 25 and seven digs vs. Ave Maria on November 6….as a freshman in 2010, played in 85 sets…ranked fourth on the team in total digs (176)…daughter of Rita Luque and Carlos Huaroto…will graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice

One of the most prolific volleyball players in school history with 824 kills, 687 digs and 80 service aces in her three-year career at STU… named First-Team All-Sun Conference, Team MVP and Team Leadership Award winner in 2012 …named Sun Conference Player of the Week for the week of September 6, 2013 when she led STU to conference road wins at Webber International and at Warner leading all players on the court in kills in both matches, while also serving three aces and averaging 12 digs per match.….at Webber, she averaged 5.6 kills per set, including a kill for match point in the decisive fourth set…has had double-digit kills in 16 of 25 matches this season and registered 20 or more kills in six matches …had a career-high 24-kill, five-block match vs. Montreat at the STU Volleyball Invitational…leads the team this season in kills (346) and kills-per-set (3.72)…also leads the team with 26 service aces on the year…as a junior in 2012, Started in all 79 sets as a six rotation outside hitter and team captain...finished second on the team in kills with 267…second on the team and fourth in the conference in kills per set with 3.38…second in total receives with 182…second in digs with 216 and second in digs per set with 2.73…earned a spot on the Illinois Tech All-Tournament Team…tied career-high in kills with 23 vs. Mt. Vernon Nazarene... posted career-high with four aces vs. Warner… registered season-high hitting percentage of .367 vs. Indiana Kokomo,…notched season-high digs with 23 vs. Webber..as a sophomore in 2011, started in 74 of 76 sets as an outside hitter…led the team in kills with 211… second on the team in kills per set with 2.9…led the team in aces with 33…named team's Most Valuable Player as a sophomore as well…the daughter of Steve and Donna McInnis…will be graduating with a degree in a Business Administration.



#10 ROSA VIERA
POSITION: Middle Blocker / Outside Hitter
HOMETOWN: Pembroke Pines, Fla.
HIGH SCHOOL: Nova
DEGREE/MAJOR: M.S.M. Criminal Justice Administration

Team's most prolific blocker…on her career, has made 150 blocks…has had 98 blocks over the past two seasons…on her career, also has had 207 kills, 43 digs and 27 assists…leads squad with 51 total blocks this season and an average of 0.6 blocks per game…has registered a block in 23 of 25 matches this year…has had multiple blocks in 11 matches this year…had a stretch of 13 straight matches with a block with 24 blocks between August 31 and September 27…had a season high six blocks in a four-set match vs. Lourdes on September 6 and then matched that total with six blocks vs. Warner on October 9…recorded five blocks three times in matches vs. Webber International, Southeastern and Warner…with ranks sixth on the team with 61 kills this season…twice this season she has had a season-best seven kills in a match vs. Indiana Tech…as a junior in 2012, played in 77 sets as a middle blocker…posted a season-high with six kills vs. Florida Memorial on October 12… had a season high five blocks vs. Warner on October 27…as a sophomore in 2011, played in 31 sets as a middle blocker…posted season-high six blocks vs. Webber International…as a redshirt freshman in 2010, played in 44 sets…. posted a career-high with 11 kills vs. Webber International…redshirted in her freshman year, but did play in four sets against Embry-Riddle where she made three solo blocks…the daughter of Harold and Rose Viera…she graduated with her Bachelor's from St. Thomas last spring and is currently working toward her Master's in Criminal Justice Administration.
