Box Score Men's Basketball: STU 76, Johnson & Wales 75

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - The Sun Conference opener for the St. Thomas University men's basketball team came down to the final second with the Bobcats coming away victorious with a 76-75 over Johnson Wales on Monday night. With the Bobcats trailing by two points, Demetris Allen hit a three-pointer with one second remaining for the win.

The 19th ranked Bobcats improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in The Sun Conference. The Wildcats fell to 8-2 and 1-1 in league play.

Allen finished the game with 14 points, one of four Bobcats who scored in double figures. Chuckie Becton and Demonte' Simpson each had 16 points, while Davorn Bryant added 12 points off the bench.

St. Thomas took a 37-31 lead into halftime, but Johnson & Wales rallied in the second half to tie the game at 52 with 10 minutes to play. JWU then took the lead 55-44 and did not relinquish the lead until a Becton converted a three-point play to take a 73-72 lead with 1:17 to play. The Wildcats took back the lead with a three-pointer by Jumaoke Smith with 12 seconds on the game clock. After a timeout, Allen then hit the game-winner to stun the home crowd at JWU.

The Bobcats return to action with a non-conference, neutral site game vs. Edward Waters to be played in West Palm Beach on Friday.
